Fraudster seized for providing paid dating service for foreigners
A fraudster whose victims fell citizens from 21 countries was detained in the Urals region, aide to Russian Deputy Prosecutor General in the Urals Federal District Valery Chistyakov said on Tuesday. An enterprising computer specialist who sold through Internet the services of a non-existent dating service received over 200,000 dollars. The Interpol, the US consulate and law enforcement agencies of several countries were involved in the investigation into the case, Chistyakov noted.
The information about the swindler, the place of his office in the Urals region and the details of the case have not been disclosed yet. According to information of the General Prosecutor's Office the victims of his activity fell 60 men from 21 countries, including citizens of the United States, Canada, England, Italy and Germany. Hoping to get acquainted with Russian beauties they made money transfers and sent jewellery and office equipment on the address of the computer fraudster.
Police managed to detain the fraudster - a professional programmist and former official of a Urals research institute - thanks to the fact that a deceived Australian citizen, who especially came to Russia in order to learn about money he sent, went to police.
Five computers, foreign currency, many jewellery items and other valuables received from the illegal business were confiscated from the accused during the investigation.
